We firmly believe that every person is a unique individual with physical, emotional, social and intellectual needs. Every person has the ability and right to grow and develop at his or her own pace. Every person benefits when given the proper motivation and stimulation in a supportive, loving environment.
The GINGERBREAD HOUSE opened in 1981, and became the first facility of its kind in the central 15-county area.
GINGERBREAD HOUSE is a not-for-profit corporation.
Efforts to establish the home were spearheaded by parents and volunteers from the region who had a vision of person-centered living for individuals with multiple mental and physical challenges. These inspired workers were guided by the staff of the Rolla Regional Center and Missouri Department of Mental Health.
The home's Gingerbread house logo was selected from a coloring book used by one of the first residents. This logo continues in use today to honor those who came before and those who continue to benefit from that early vision.
